[NDT] 6 Step Procedures for X-ray CT System
(Radiation Generator) Registration in Thailand

Radiation Generator System
In Thailand, when you plan to install an X-ray/CT system (radioactive generator), there are the processes you should know as the diagram below.

When you purchase the X-ray system for an industrial use, such as fluoroscopy equipment or CT scanner to inspect defects of the products, then if the X-ray process occurs in a closed cabinet during the workpiece inspection, your X-ray system is considered as the radiation generator type 3 (the probable dangerous type). As the subsequent application steps in summary, you shall prepare the basic-level radiation safety officer. Then apply for a radiation generator license under Nuclear Energy for Peace Act, B.E. 2559.

Know the Type of Radiation Generator

The radiation generator can be divided into three types:

Type 1:the very dangerous radiation generator, e.g. Linear particle accelerator, Cyclotron, and Synchrotron
Type 2:the dangerous radiation generator such as Superficial X-ray Radiation Therapy or Orthovoltage X-ray Therapy
Type 3:the probable dangerous radiation generator such as baggage inspection X-ray fluoroscopy

Know the level of Radiation Safety Officer (RSO)

Radiation safety officer is a person who passed RSO licensing examination and is granted a license by Office of Atoms for Peace, Ministry of Science and Technology.

At the place where the radiation generator is located, at least one radiation safety officer shall be present at all times during the working hours. The radiation safety officer can be classified into three levels as follows:

  1. Basic Level – the license holder who can operate the probable dangerous machine
  2. Intermediate Level – the license holder who can operate the dangerous machine and/or the probable dangerous machine
  3. Advanced Level – the license holder who can operate the very dangerous machine, the dangerous machine and/or the probable dangerous machine

  • Department of Medical Sciences
  • Thailand Institute of Nuclear Technology (Public Organization)
  • Department of Health Service Support

In order to schedule the inspection service by the radiation generator inspector, the booking should be made 2-3 months in advance. You can check the service via website https://www.tint.or.th/main/index.php/th/2020-04-26-08-09-52/2020-04-26-09-37-03/2020-04-26-09-52-01
