[NDT] 6 Step Procedures for X-ray CT System
(Radiation Generator) Registration in Thailand

Radiation Generator System

In Thailand, when you are installing X-ray CT system (radioactive generator), there are the processes you should know as the diagram below.

6Step X-ray Install Proceedure

In case you purchased an X-ray system for industrial use, such as fluoroscopy or CT scanner to inspect defects of the products, if the X-ray process occurs in a closed cabinet during the workpiece inspection, your X-ray system is the radiation generator type 3 (the probable dangerous type) according to the above diagram. As the next step, you shall prepare the basic-level radiation safety officer. Then apply for a radiation generator license under Nuclear Energy for Peace Act, B.E. 2559 as in the diagram.

Classification of Radiation Generator

The radiation generator can be divided into three types:
Type 1: the very dangerous radiation generator, e.g. Linear particle accelerator, Cyclotron, and Synchrotron
Type 2: the dangerous radiation generator such as Superficial X-ray Radiation Therapy or Orthovoltage X-ray Therapy
Type 3: the probable dangerous radiation generator such as baggage inspection X-ray fluoroscopy

About Radiation Safety Officer (RSO)

Radiation safety officer is a person who passed RSO licensing examination and was granted a license by Office of Atoms for Peace, Ministry of Science and Technology.

At the place where the radiation generator is located, at least one radiation safety officer shall be present at all times during the working hours. The radiation safety officer can be classified into three levels as follows:

  1. Basic Level – the license holder who can operate the probable dangerous machine
  2. Intermediate Level – the license holder who can operate the dangerous machine and/or the probable dangerous machine
  3. Advanced Level – the license holder who can operate the very dangerous machine, the dangerous machine and/or the probable dangerous machine

APPLYING a Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) License

Anybody who meet the qualifications can apply for RSO licensing examination via webpage.

http://rso.oap.go.th/

Check the eligibility criteria in section a. and Apply for regular exams (Paper) in section b. or Apply for online exams in section c.

The examinee also can take a radiation protection training course at Thailand Institute of Nuclear Technology (Public Organization) http://academic.tint.or.th/CourseList.aspx in section d. in order to prepare for an examination as well.  If the online system is unusable, you can send the application via email supattra@tint.or.th , somboon@tint.or.th or send a fax to 02-5790259

Department of Medical Sciences,
Thailand Institute of Nuclear Technology (Public Organization),
Department of Health Service Support.

In order to schedule the inspection service by the radiation generator inspector, the booking should be made 2-3 months in advance. You can check the service via website https://www.tint.or.th/index.php/th/services/2013-07-31-07-36-26
